OSHA Fines Fall River Foundry For Safety Violations

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Fall River Foundry with 10 safety violations Thursday.

According to a news release from OSHA, the citations include three repeat violations for failing to protect workers from metal dust exposure at its brass foundry in Fall River. The company is now facing $57,600 in proposed fines.

The OSHA area director said the lack of protection puts the workers at unnecessary risk of respiratory illnesses and complications from such exposures. OSHA originally opened their investigation in August 2011. The repeat violations were ones the company was fined for in both 2009 and 2010. Fall River Foundry has been inspected eight times since 1987 and has received a total of 28 violations.

The company now has 15 days from receiving the citations to comply, request an informal conference or contest the findings before an independent commission.
