OSHA Fines Company $91K In Workplace Accident

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is seeking a fine of $91,000 against Yaskawa America for six violations after a worker suffered electrical burns at its Wisconsin manufacturing plant.

Yaskawa America, based in Waukegan, Ill., manufactures parts for heating and cooling systems. The worker was injured at the Oak Creek, Wis. plant when he suffered electrical shock and received second and third-degree burns on his hands.

OSHA cited Yaskawa for allowing the employee to come in contact with exposed equipment and for failing to provide proper safety gear.

Yaskawa has 15 business days to comply with the penalties, request an informal conference or contest the findings.
