Norwalk Plant Fined $186K After Worker’s Death

A Norwalk beef processing plant was cited with 11 safety violations after an employee was electrocuted in December.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, VPP Group LLC received the violations, including two of them serious, after a maintenance worker was electrocuted December 9.

Inspectors said the electrocution occurred when workers were sent to fix a leaking pipe near equipment which was not weatherproof. Because of the lack of weatherproofing, moisture gathered int he electrical boxes. This incident happened a little more than two years after another employee was electrocuted as well.

The company was placed in the severe violator enforcement program, requiring them to have targeted inspections to assure the company is complying with safety regulations.

OSHA proposed VPP Group pay $186,000 in fines. With all citations, the company has 15 business days to comply with the fines, request an informal conference or contest the findings.

If you or your loved one has been seriously injured or your loved one has been killed in any type of workplace accident, it is imperative to speak with a Wisconsin personal injury attorney who can fight on your behalf.
