OSHA Cites Lunda Construction Co. In April Death Of Employee

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited the Black River Falls construction company, Lunda Construction, last week with three serious safety violations after the April death of a worker who was struck and killed by a section of the crane he was assembling.

The company faces $21,000 in fines after a 58-year-old Black River Falls construction worker was killed while working at a U.S. 41 construction site. The company was cited for failing to train workers and provide written procedure on safe crane assembly, failure to provide a competent person to supervise the assembly and disassembly of the crane as well as failure to follow the manufacturer’s recommended procedures for assembly of the crane.

A serious violation is one where there is a significant chance of death or serious physical harm from any hazard an employer knew about or should have known about. The company has 15 business days from receiving notice of the violations and penalties to comply; request and informal conference; or contest the findings.
