Milwaukee Worker’s Compensation Lawyers – OSHA Releases Resources Aimed At Protecting Employees

Tens of thousands of workers are sickened or die from exposures to hazardous chemicals encountered in the workplace. To help decrease the number of incidents, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration released new resources they believe will help better protect workers from hazardous chemicals. As Milwaukee worker’s compensation lawyers, we know any steps made toward better protecting the Wisconsin workforce are steps in the right direction and hope these resources help decrease the overall yearly accidents.

Milwaukee worker’s compensation lawyers work toward a similar goal as OSHA: to help increase the safety within all workplace environments. Even one death or injury is too many and we hope through our efforts, there is a decrease in workplace accidents.

Both new resources are web-based. According to OSHA, their exposure standards are out-of-date and provide inadequate protection. The organization hopes the resources will help bridge the gap a bit. OSHA developed a toolkit to help employers identify safer chemicals, materials, products or processes that may be used in place of more toxic ones.

OSHA created a second resource as well, identified as the Annotated Permissible Exposure Limits. This resource allows employers to voluntarily adopt newer and more protective workplace exposure limits. Research has shown the current limits do not always adequately protect employees.

“There is no question that many of OSHA’s chemical standards are not adequately protective,” Michaels said. “I advise employers, who want to ensure that their workplaces are safe, to utilize the occupational exposure limits on these annotated tables, since simply complying with OSHA’s antiquated PELs will not guarantee that workers will be safe.”
