Milwaukee Worker’s Compensation Attorney – Company Faces Fines after Several Workers Injured

Anyone who suffers a work-related accident should consult with a Milwaukee worker’s compensation attorney who can assist him or her. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited a South Milwaukee company following injuries to seven workers, some requiring urgent treatment. Cooper Power Systems, LLC faces six violations, including two willful violations stemming from a spill that occurred last October.

A Milwaukee worker’s compensation attorney encounters many workplace accidents that occur because employees were not provided with proper safety gear to protect themselves nor the proper training to safely handle a situation. In this incident, the seven employees suffered several injuries including chemical burns to the skin and at least one had irritation to his or her respiratory tracts, requiring urgent medical treatment. The injuries resulted after 15 to 20 gallons of phosphoric/sulfuric acid were released from an over-pressurized hose at the facility.

OSHA cited the company for failing to provide workers with required protective equipment to prevent exposure and failure to provide required training in hazardous materials clean up procedures. OSHA proposed fines of $166,000 for the violations. Violating the company’s own policy that in such instances it would bring in outside help to contain the spill, the company directed employees to clean-up.

The company faces two willful citations for directing employees to respond to an acid spill without conducting a hazard evaluation and lack of the protective equipment needed as well as knowledge to properly handle such a spill.

Anyone who has suffered a work-related injury needs to call a Milwaukee worker’s compensation attorney who can evaluate your case and advise you on obtaining your full benefits.
