Accident At Bradley Mill Kills One, Injures Another

An accident at a Bradley mill Tuesday killed one man and critically injured another Tuesday morning.

The accident happened just after 8 a.m. at Packaging Corp of America. According to reports, the men were burned by fly ash, which is a byproduct of burning coal.

A 47-year-old man was killed in the accident and a 29-year-old man was critically injured in the incident. They were both taken to a local hospital, where they were flown to the University of Wisconsin – Madison Hospital. The 47-year-old man died about 5 p.m. Tuesday.The 29-year-old was transferred to a Twin Cities hospital for additional treatment.

The two were contractors from Ontonagon, Mich. and were working at the mill with Inland Systems, an industrial cleaning company. PCA produces container board and corrugated packaging at the mill.

Another fatal accident in 2008 at the plant killed three men and cost the company $22,000 in safety violations and penalties.

Federal investigators arrived on the scene and began an investigation to make sure the company was in compliance with all safety regulations. If not the company may face stricter penalties as a repeat offender. They have up to six months to wrap up their investigation.
